While in a cargo bay, a container falls on Worf, breaking his back. A specialist in back injuries from Starfleet comes aboard. She has a experimental treatment that could rebuild his backbone but Crusher is worried about it. When she tries another one of her treatments on another injured person which causes the person's death, Crusher relieves her of duty. They do proceed with the operation but it fails and Worf dies. Luckily, due to Worf's physiology, he comes back to life and is fine.
When the barrel falls on Worf, a second barrel also falls, and its lid pops off. However, when Geordi runs over to Worf, the lid is back on the barrel.
